Young Greens call #IAmTinaToo as fracking campaigner faces court

9 December 2016

Young Greens act in solidarity with Tina Rothery who today faces prison for refusal to pay costs to Cuadrilla, a company who are actively engaged in fracking in the U.K. [1].

Tina, who stood as the Green Party candidate in Tatton, against then Chancellor George Osbourne in the 2015 General Election, is being charged on behalf of a group of people for an "eviction" in 2014.[2] Her case will be held at noon today in Preston. If convicted, Tina is faced with fourteen days in prison.[3]

Young Greens Co-Chair Hannah Ellen Clare said:

"We give our full support to Tina as she fights against corporate giants who are determined to make an example of her stance to protect our land and resources from environmental harm.

I am incredibly inspired by Tina for her resilience in ensuring that we have a future that is free from the dangers of fracking. I commend her actions to fight against this unjust sentence"

We call on our members to show their support for Tina by tweeting #IAmTinaToo, in her continuing battle against corporations intent on destroying our planet for profit.
