Young Green, Benjamin Smith selected as new deputy leader of Wales Green Party

27 July 2017

Today we are proud to congratulate Young Green, Benjamin Smith as newly elected deputy leader of Wales Green Party.

Benjamin has previously stood for the Green Party in Llandaff and Cardiff Central and is currently a committee member for both Wales Young Greens and the Student Assembly Against Austerity. Benjamin (19) follows in the footsteps of Amelia Womack, the youngest ever deputy leader of any political party in the UK.

Co Chair of the Young Greens of England and Wales, Sam Murray, who is also a member of Wales Young Greens said:

"Congratulations to Benjamin on this result. It is fantastic to see a Young Green take up the Wales deputy leadership at a time when young people's voices are needed to challenge the Senedd to deliver their promises in the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act.

The Welsh Labour Government last month raised tuition fees against the principles of Jeremy Corbyn, and Carwyn Jones looks set to oppose progressive policies.

We need a voice like Benjamin's to ensure progressive politics led by young people in Wales."
